Nicknamed the —Heart of Alberta,— Stettler is a town located in east-central Alberta. Several smaller communities are found within the area including Big Valley, Gadsby, Donalda, Halkirk and others. A popular attraction in Stettler is the Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions, a rail tour that includes meals and entertainment, ranging from dinner theatre to an old west train robbery. Historical trails and museums can be found in town such as the Stettler Town and Country Museum, displaying artifacts and historical buildings from Stettler's past. The Boomtown Trail and Alberta Buffalo Trail allow visitors to explore heritage sites from century-old communities. Recreation facilities and attractions include the Stettler Recreation Centre, Stettler Community Hall and Stettler Golf and Country Club along with arts and culture venues and organizations. Numerous campgrounds and parks are found in the area including Rochon Sands Provincial Park, the Narrows Provincial Park, Ol' MacDonald's Resort and many others situated around Buffalo Lake and the Red Deer River.
